Gaming Purchase of the Weekend: Saints Row

April 5th, 2008 · 669 Comments

So it would seem that GameFly sent the game to my home address so I have to get my parents to send the game back. How troublesome. Thus, I will be another week or two without a game. With the advice I was given, I’ve lessened my GameQ down to six games and hopefully I’ll get Rainbow Six Vegas 2 or Call of Duty 4. Until that time comes, I will have a new game to keep me entertained.

I went out to White Flint Mall yesterday (I haven’t the slightest clue where it is actually–the Red Line on the metro takes you there though) with my room mate and her friend and her room mate. Surprisingly, I hate shopping and trying on clothes that I’m not really interested in buying, so I wandered off to GameStop (my attraction to the store is like bees to sugar). So while  I was there, I was pondering what to buy under $40 and I thought about Saints Row, which is on the top of my GameQ (need to remove it soon). Thus, I picked that game up and then I headed to H&M to actually shop like a good girl (I bought tank tops, just in case that was important) before we headed out and returned to College Park.

I was slightly disappointed that I can only play as a male character (I mean, goodness, when am I NOT playing as a dude in these games), but I just sucked it up and created my Asian man with brown corn rows and a brown jock-strap beard. The game is, in essence, a GTA rip-off, but I never played GTA before so the whole concept is kind of new to me.

In the short amount of time that I did play, I learned that I am absolutely horrible at driving in all games, bullets are necessary before taking on people of opposing gangs, the cops pop up at the most inconvenient times, and people are so kind as to stop their cars so that I can steal them. Also, if one tire touches the sidewalk, people will just dive into the street. It’s quite amusing. Kicking bitches in the back at random is quite amusing as well.

My current trouble with this game is the same problem I have with a better majority of games I play here–my television is too damn small so I can’t read the text half the time. When the screen darkens, I can read shit, so hopefully I can lower the brightness because I think reading information in games is somewhat important–especially for a newb like me. Maybe I’ll pick up a TV some time in the semester. I should…

Anyway, I have great faith in this game since all my faith has been lost in GameFly. I’m gonna get some play time in right after I snatch a meal from the Diner.
